Mitchell Elementary
Covid Plan Update: January 18, 2022
Mitchell Families:
As you have watched in our local and national news, we are in the midst of a recent surge of Covid, most linked to the Omicron variant. We have seen an increase of illness within our students and staff. This is not unusual for the beginning of the second semester, but just as always, is a concern to be taken seriously. Students and staff are experiencing a variety of symptoms, but the majority include congestion, headaches, fatigue, and sore throats. Some experience fevers, others do not. While symptoms have been reported to be less severe than other variants, our local hospitals and clinics are extremely busy.
As of today, the overall percentage of confirmed positive Covid cases for our high school students is 3% and our elementary school is 1%. We are monitoring the numbers of students and staff with illness closely on a daily basis. At this time, we believe we have the vast majority still able to teach and learn and we will continue to provide school as normal.
Parents, please monitor your children closely and keep them at home if you notice symptoms of illness. Letās all work together to keep virusesāCovid, Influenza, Rhinovirusāout of the school building as much as possible. The Isolation period for Covid is 5 days if symptom free, mask wearing to follow for an additional five days. All other illnesses should be fever and/or symptom free for no less than 24 hours.
We do strongly encourage all students and staff to wear masks, particularly if directly exposed to illness. If the close contact is within the staff or childās residence, the staff or child should mask at school/in public for ten (10) days.
As always, please be considerate of teachers as they work through this challenging time. Many teachers are helping each other by covering classes. We are thankful for our substitute teachers, but they too are in short supply. Coaches are doing their best to keep athletes healthy and competitive. Please communicate with the office staff and teachers regarding student absences. By working together in a positive manner, we can get through this winter season!
