Soaring costs in materials and labor has led to postponing the Science Renovation Project scheduled for the summer of 2021. The Mitchell School Board decided to postpone the project with a rebid attempt in the fall of 2021 with construction to begin immediately following the 2021-2022 school year. Board members felt that while renovation of this space is a need, it is in the best interest of tax payers to wait until costs come down. Additionally, key materials needed for this project--particularly cabinetry and epoxy countertops--would not have been available for purchase until the winter of 2021 or possibly into 2022.
The funding for this project will remain earmarked to be used for this purpose. The new timeline includes running bids in the fall of 2021 (or when prices appear to come down and stabilize), accepting a bid in the winter of 2021/2022 and beginning the project immediately following the last school day in May 2022. The new science curriculum materials WILL be used for the upcoming school year in all grade levels (K-12).
